CHARACTER NAME: Ashley Yavie
AGE: 22
APPEARANCE:

Ashley is from a world that is close to the modern world, with the exception a lot of the high tech is steam powered, which has been the big thing since the 1910’s. It’s now 2012 in her world, and cities have central boilers to help heat homes and run the turbines that create electricity.
The governing bodies are a parliament styled body, governors tend to smaller details while the main ruler is a crown. Anyone who goes to school, unless they are extremely lucky are usually the children of politicians, these people make up all of the upper class including engineers, doctors, politicians, and the police force Higher ranking military.
Most military (Foot soldiers) come from the civilian class that live pretty much in slums, these people are made up of what would be considered middle class in first world countries today. The slums of most city states aren’t that bad, think more along the lines of high rise apartments, they have local markets where you’re able to buy food and other goods. Clothing is usually handmade and one of a kind, not mass-produced. You can tell a lot about a person with what they wear since clothing style differs from town to town.
The lower class, tend to live more in the wilds outside the cities. They don’t get the protection of the military, though these people tend to have a little more freedom than those living in cities. These are the farmers; they get a little money (Barely enough to survive on) from the city state they live near in order to keep the city stocked with food and the supplies needed to make other goods. Many abuse this privilege, keeping enough food to last them until the next harvest while selling the rest to the cities. Since hardly anyone goes out to the farms they’re able to hide it. Some families even risk the wilds of the forests to gather herbs making a little more cash on the side selling these to doctors, or to the middle class whom have some experience in healing or even alchemy.
Then there’s the ‘free states’ where there’s two kinds. First being nicknamed ‘flesh states’ where if you’re not careful you’ll end up on the auction block as a slave, slaves are bought and sent all over the world, they’re popular ‘pets’ to the first class, and some of the lower class feel it’s the only way they’ll ever be able to have anything ‘good’ in life. Once you’re sold into slavery though the only escape is death, you’re lives are pretty much whatever the person who bought you wants you to be. Sometimes a slave may be lucky enough to have a master who will set them free, though this is not truly a common thing.
Then there’s Sanctuaries; Sanctuaries are true safe havens, many even though they’re ruled by someone in the upper first class, have aides from all classes, working in a more diplomatic way and the ruler is more of a figure head. The largest of these city-states have blood ties to the largest and most powerful of the city-states on continental Europe.
Most of the city states are filled with humans as the citizens, though with the lack of the wireless age, mysticism is still strong in this world. There are also other beings, Faerie folk and their type that have taken to governing the forests and ‘wild’ lands that the humans don’t dare go into.
These other races sometimes mate with humans, these half breeds aren’t well liked in society because they aren’t pure human. These children take on most of the traits of the human parent, though they may show some traits of their Other-kin parent, some of these traits appear as faster healing, some as an odd hair color, maybe abilities that aren’t possible without the aid of magic such as mind reading, or even seeing into the future. While most children with abilities are scorned mind readers, seers, and some healers are usually, treated as national treasures. Healers are the most rare out of the hybrid abilities, and usually the shortest living since they’re sent as soon as they’re old enough to the front lines in wars in order to keep the soldiers alive. That’s why many parents who find out their half breed is a healer try to make sure their child never uses the ability on anyone else, in hopes to keep them alive.
If they can be they’re sent to the nearest Sanctuary as an orphan, in hopes that they’ll give the child a life that would be better than the battle fields, even if it’s just working the earth.
BRIEF CHARACTER HISTORY:
Ashley’s parents were a forbidden love by government standards, but since his father ran a Sanctuary that opened its doors to anyone in need of shelter. Her mother was one of the rare dragons of an eastern world that could take human form.
Ashley was born, not hatched, in Yavie Keep, the ancestral city-state owned by her father’s clan, it’s a sanctuary run by Druids who have stayed true to their path of being a peaceful place. Almost all the residents are refugees who retreated there when their homes were destroyed, even though Ewan was one of the druids, he like the others of his family helped with anything that needed to be done in the simple community. It wasn’t as fancy as the neighboring city-states, but they had what they wanted, and with the help of the Other-kin, they were at peace. Many of the Druids from this sanctuary were sent out to other cities to hunt out hybrid children to bring them there to give them and their families homes where they didn’t have to worry about being hunted.
When Ashley was old enough she followed in their footsteps, learning how to farm the land, gather herbs needed to make the healers tonics, and she even had a pet pig that she worked with, training to help gather truffles in the forest, finding them to be a special treat.
Ashley also took lessons on fighting from the soldiers who lived in the sanctuary, despite her father’s wishes, though she did beg the soldiers to teach her just how to defend herself in unarmed combat. Her mother secretly led her into the woods each morning to teach her how to fight with weapons, feeling that it was something that her hybrid daughter needed to know.
Ashley never questioned why the lessons were secret, after all women were soldiers as well. Though she kept the secret just like her mother told her to. When she was ten her mother gave her a small knife, large enough to do some damage if she needed it to.
This was also the same year her parents were murdered, the assassin was caught going for Ashley who in a panic touched her attacker after he stabbed her with a knife. Touching him in her struggle she created a circuit, allowing her wound to flow from her into him, while she pulled his health from him. When the local guard found her she was huddled in the corner of her room, her attacker’s dead body nearby, he had bled out while the wound had healed around the knife. She had been found almost a full day after the fact, unable to move because it hurt to even breathe with the blade in her chest.
The druids took her to the inner grove where they held their meetings, removing the blade and having another healer tend to the wound. With a little work they had found out exactly how Ashley had pulled it off, figuring the dragon blood that coursed through her veins were finally showing their gifts.
Ashley stayed with the elder druids in order to keep her hidden from the forces that had killed her parents. While in their care Ashley was taught medicine, learning how to heal without the use of her ability, hoping that they could prevent others from finding out about her. Last thing the other city-states needed to know was that they were hiding a potential assassin who didn’t need a weapon. Ashley didn’t mind these new lessons, as long as she could still help in the fields. She hated being waited on, not being used to it even though by her human bloodline it was her right. She felt if she was going to help people she needed to gain their trust. In order to prevent another accident from happening she took to wearing long sleeved clothing more often, even in the summer, and when she knew she’d be dealing with people she started to wear leather gloves, explaining it to those who didn’t know that they protected her scarred and healing hands.
Ashley has since moved from the Sanctuary, taking a position on an airship in order to see the world. She’s been hired on as their medic, the ship being a cargo vessel (Pirate ship) that is run by the Sanctuary, officially they’re trading their fine woolens to other countries, unofficially they’re working as a smuggling ring, removing slaves from their owners and setting them free within the Sanctuary network, and if possible they’ll reunite families. Ashley’s healing skill comes in handy when they’re trying to escape, she’ll play distraction, touching any guard that gets too close giving them all of the wounds she collects before that point, then yells for the guard to get a medic. No one seems to think twice about it since they never go to the same city-state twice. They also make sure to pull the rescue game at random, making sure there’s no pattern that can be traced back to the Sanctuary they work out of.
PERSONALITY:
On the outside Ashley shows a happy persona, it's her 'work face' the one that her mother taught her all those long mornings in the woods. It’s the kind of look that makes the half dragon seem more delicate than she really is.
Alone she'll let her true emotions loose, she’ll show it as anger, frustration or even just curling up in a ball in a corner crying. Because she knows for the small handful of people she’s able to help, either by freeing, or just simply just being there when they need someone, she feels it’s not enough to make a difference and really help the majority of people when it comes to the governments in charge that allow many of the atrocities she sees happen.
She’s protective over people who are elderly or younger who cannot defend themselves. Even though she’s never seen combat herself in the way of a war, Ashley has seen the families torn apart by it, and has even seen other healers who have been unfortunate enough not to be hidden. She feels it’s her duty to save as many half breeds as she can, to remind people that they’re living beings just like they are.
Because of the healing gift, Ashley tries to hide what she is from everyone, though if the secret’s out she hides what it does to her. She does not want to be treated as some delicate flower, nor does she want to be used as an instant pain killer for those who would abuse her ability for their own sake. Since she tries to hide this as much as she can, she alienates herself somewhat from others, not wanting to get tricked into bad relationships.
She loves working with the public, and anything that requires a little hard work to her seems like it’s more beneficial to helping people than just standing by until she’s needed to play the ‘damsel in distress’ role or just playing doctor. While she may be noble of birth, she feels she better helps people by getting to know what the lower classes want. Only time she’ll act like the noble she was born to be is if she knows it’ll help people with lower standing, usually she’ll use it to get guards to lay off harming innocent by standers.
ABILITIES:
Her strength is normal human strength, dexterity and agility is slightly better, but only as much as someone who's lived a better part of their life in the wilds living off the land than someone who has been 'fed' by others hard work just shopping for what she needs to survive.
She has some skill with herbs and plants knowing the basics of which are safe to eat or not. Though if she's in an unfamiliar land she does stay clear of berries and mushrooms knowing that they may not be as safe to eat as others.
Fighting skills: She knows mostly defensive fighting, though her private lessons with her mother and later with other guards taught her some sword skill, and archery. She can use a gun, but feels once you use a gun in a fight you draw attention to yourself, which is why she prefers the bow, she may not have as much range, but it doesn’t scream “Here I am attack me!” in a battle.
Her skills with weapons are good, but again as far as training gets you. With her bow she can’t bank arrows (No trick shots) and the arrowheads are sport arrows, which she carries half a dozen with her in the quiver, She feels more than that and the situation’s a little more hands on. Her bow, if in a pinch can double as a staff all she has to do is snap the string, which she would only do in a dire emergency.
With swordplay, she is a beginner, the style is more like Italian fencing, she knows how to knock a blade away from her, but balks at actually stabbing someone with it.
Hybrid abilities
Touch healing - which is a little misleading, Ashley can pull wounds from others into herself. This will cause her some damage so she tries to avoid using this skill unless absolutely needed. She can only do this on wounds with body parts she has. Meaning if the person she’s healing say has wings, she would be unable to heal them (The wings) since she doesn’t have that appendage. While healing Ashley and her patient are vulnerable to attack during the process she has to keep in constant contact (a closed circuit at least two body parts must be touching) on the patient.
Touch wounding - the wounds she collects with her 'healing' ability she can send back at others within her touch range. Sometimes she will use this to interrogate others if there is no other way to get them to talk. This ability is the one she knows the most about how it works. As long as Ashley has wounds, even if it’s a paper cut, she can enforce these on others. She found this out with the assassin she killed.
POSSESSIONS:
- Small knife usually tucked into the bracers she wears on her forearms
- Her bracers - which have small pockets good for carrying small items, usually she tucks money into these.
- Poet shirt type tunic which laces up the front
- Leather leggings
- Riding boots of soft leather that stop just below her knees
- Green wool cloak with runes stitched into the front
- Hip pouch with small leather pouches holding various remedies for minor aches and pains
- Limited supply of each of the following (Two doses which would be one cup of tea each)
- Mint - apetite stimulant (She will mix this with others to ease the sharp taste)
- Valerian - To help with cramps or as a sleep aide (This can be used to knock someone out completely for a few hours)
- Chamomile - basic 'cure all'
- Cayenne - helps with sore throats and helps to aide in healing cuts and scrapes
- Oregeno - helps to ease aches and pains
- Lemon Balm - antibacterial
- small amount of field rations (If she stretches it in the form it's in 2 days worth, make a stew with the fish or jerky she may be able to stretch it to feed about five people once)
- Dried fruit
- smoked fish
- jerkey
- bandages (small box of bandaide like bandages, one roll of gauze
- silver hip flask wrapped in leather - full of rum
- Limited supply of each of the following (Two doses which would be one cup of tea each)
- Her bow (longbow) and quiver (four arrows)
- Leather bound journal - filled with her notes on herbal remedies, various thoughts
Weaknesses and Flaws:
Her abilities are touch only for the most part unless an extreme positive emotion is triggered that she can use to enhance the healing. Doing this will weaken her and whomever is helping to trigger the emotion for a few hours.
With her ability it's not true healing, she transfers the wounds into herself, meaning if it's serious enough she can put herself in the hospital instead of the person she was healing. The more she collects the closer she goes to putting her life in danger. She cannot bring someone back from the dead, once they pass that point her powers stop working in order to save her life, if by chance she’s able to keep trying she will fall away from the body in a coma that will keep her out for at least three days (At most a few months).
With her magic she has to have the spell memorized and speak the words. Since they're usually in Gaelic and it's a language she struggles with in stressful situations, it's more of a liability in a combat situation. If ordered she will attempt it as long as she knows someone’s backing her up, but it's one she would rather not take

JOURNAL ENTRY SAMPLE:
I don’t remember much of what happened before I woke here. I know I was in Neo Alexandria. We were trying to free a set of twins with seer ability. I was separated from them when, I think when we were cornered, from the twins and Markus who was playing my guard. I’m used to separating from him, usually to start the role of distraction. I wonder if the city guard hit me a little harder than I thought. Though if this is a slaver ship, it is an odd one, the cargo, which I am guessing that is what we are, are allowed to roam free. Okay so somewhat free, there are areas of this ship that make my skin crawl. I do not wish to go there, though I will, just not alone.
Another note about the other people here, we all come from different places, some, okay a lot of them wear clothing that I am not familiar with. There is one here that seems to be dragon hybrid like I am as well, maybe a bit more dragon than not. He makes potions; wonder if he will teach me some more, I am always interested in learning other cures.
I’ve kept my secret so far… I fear how they will react if they find out about that. I really hope that’s not why this ‘project head’ that is in charge brought me here. I’ll help the others on the ship, but I will not assist the Captain or the Project Head.
