midori_majutsu_shi
Physical Description:
HAIR: Black
EYES: naturally light green wears contacts to make them brown or golden
HEIGHT: 4'7"
WEIGHT: 97 lbs
BUILD: Thin build, athletic though not body builder. Think more swimmer or runner's build
Usually wears tasteful slacks and blouses if she's coming from the hospital, if coming from the medical area at HQ she'll have a lab coat on as well
In the field the lab coat is replaced with a short red and white short kimono and her pants are usually shorts. Her feet are wrapped, but no shoes, she likes the grip on the ground when using her bow, (traditional Yumi bow in that style. Rei's was passed on to her by her mother before she left, so that she'd be with her always).
Age: 22
DOB: 4-4-1989
PB: Iya Villania
Character Location/Home: Tokyo Japan
Alignment: Hero - BH6
Relatives: Ewan Yavie, Michirou Yavie tawakawa (Both of whom are in Scotland), Ran Tawakawa (grandfather) - Currently locked away in prison.
Abilities:
Non Mutant Abilities
Her strength is normal human strength, dexterity and agility is slightly better, but only to the point of hard training.
Reiko was trained twelve years of her life as an assassin and is fluent in Japanese, French, German, Russian, and Chinese. Her English is accented heavily but passable. The languages were so that she could fit into the crowd when she was on a mission. Her mixed blood allowed her to blend in a little easier as long as she wore glasses to hide her eyes.
Fighting skills (That she pretends most the time not to have) are Karate, Jujitsu, Ninjutsu, and Kyudo.
Her favorite of these happens to be Kyudo which keeps her out of the front line where her mutant ability is better used, though this doesn't mean that she'll stand on the side lines if she sees that her teammates or others need assistance. With these she’s good, not the best, but mixing up the styles she can sometimes trick opponents who are masters into thinking she’s on the same footing as them.
Most of her training was actually to sneak in and out of places unnoticed and make the kill as quickly as possible, most of the time stabbing someone in the back or shooting them with an arrow as opposed to looking them face to face as she made the kill.
Her skills with weapons are good, but again as far as training gets you. With her bow she can’t bank arrows (No trick shots) and the arrowheads are sport arrows, which she carries half a dozen with her in the quiver, Rei feels more than that and the situation’s a little more hands on. Her bow, if in a pinch can double as a staff, all she has to do is snap the string, which she would only do in a dire emergency.
In her kimono she has hidden dirks, the knives she can throw at a twenty five foot accuracy. If given time she can give a killing blow, but she tends to use them as warning instead. The blades are about six inches long mostly blade.
Mutant abilities
Touch healing - which is a little misleading, Rei can pull wounds from others into herself. This will cause her some damage so she tries to avoid using this skill unless absolutely needed. Rei can only do this on wounds with body parts she has. Meaning if the person she’s healing say has wings (Using Warren as an example) She would be unable to heal them (The wings) since she doesn’t have that appendage. While healing Reiko and her patient are vulnerable to attack (Which is how her aura comes into play creating a buffer zone around her and a patient long enough for her to heal them enough so they can be moved) during the process she has to keep in constant contact (At least one hand) on the patient.
Touch wounding - the wounds she collects with her 'healing' ability she can send back at others within her touch range. Sometimes she will use this to interrogate others if there is no other way to get them to talk. This ability is the one she knows the most about how it works. As long as Reiko has wounds, even if it’s a paper cut, she can enforce these on others. When she first learned about it, it was a mistake that saved her and one of her grandfather’s guards lives. After that her grandfather abused the ability forcing her to kill with it by nearly killing her then forcing her to touch enemies of his, effectively scaring her about using the ability to start with. Since she’s been out of her grandfather’s care she’s used it a few times when someone’s come after her, in order to find out who called out the hit on her. Afterwards, she always feels sick to her stomach, so she tends to use this as a last resort
Peaceful aura - If she focuses she can cause people within a two hundred foot radius of her to become more peaceful and docile. She will use this when she is on UN missions to help calm down the clinics she is sent into so that the other doctors are not harmed. She has no control over whom she affects with this; so soldiers and civilians both, if armed will drop their weapons when it is activated. Most of the time she uses this as a buffer between her and a patient if on the battlefield, though she will use it in hospital settings if the patient that is being tended to is aggressive. It is a weak telepathic suggestion to chill and relax, though she’s unable to do anything but force that suggestion on others. It’s a new skill that she’s still trying to figure out how it works, but feels uneasy about it since it is a form of mind control and she hates the idea of controlling others, just because her grandfather forced her to do things she didn’t want to do at such a young age.
Mystic training
She's still a novice at this, most of her training is more Western magic than Eastern. She has one spell that she knows well enough to use on a daily basis.
The strongest spell she happens to have is a simple binding spell, which when used can hold someone long enough to deliver them to the police. Down side is it is a spell she has to have physical contact on the person she's using it on. Which doesn't make it worthwhile in a combat situation. Though after a fight she’s willing to put herself in harm’s way long enough to get the opponent secured.
The other spell she happens to know is a summon light spell, which comes in handy now and then. She can summon a ball of purple flames about the size of a lighter flame. It’ll hover above her hand, but the moment she closes her hand or tips the said hand as if to drop the light it’ll go out. Great for a kitchen raid, bad for anything else really.
Weaknesses and Flaws:
Her mutant abilities and magic are touch range only, with the exception of the aura.
With her aura anyone outside the range is still able to attack, so it kinda sucks for ranged weapons.
With her mutant ability it's not true healing, she transfers the wounds into herself, meaning if it's serious enough she can put herself in the hospital instead of the person she was healing. The more she collects the closer she goes to putting her life in danger. Reiko cannot bring someone back from the dead, once they pass that point her powers stop working in order to save her life, if by chance she’s able to keep trying she will fall away from the body in a coma that will keep her out for at least three days (At most a few months).
With her magic she has to have the spell memorized and speak the words. Since they're usually in Gaelic and it's a language she struggles with in stressful situations, it's more of a liability in a combat situation. If ordered she will attempt it as long as she knows someone’s backing her up, but she’d rather not risk it.
Activating her aura will not only affect foes, it'll affect teammates too. Because of this she sees it as a liability, especially when dealing with people with guns, because the moment they step out of the range of her aura they’re freed from her control and can open fire.
If children are involved she will forget orders and do her best to keep them safe even at the risk of her own life. Reiko feels that she is justified with this action because she would rather not have any child harmed. And if she sees an adult strike a child for the pure sake of striking a kid to bully them around she will step in, on a mission or not. This action also comes into play if she’s working at the hospital, if she sees the signs of an abused kid she will figure out who hurt them and try to scare them straight if she can corner them without any of her mentors catching it.
Personality: On the outside Reiko shows a happy persona, it's her 'work face' the one that her grandfather forced on her to hide her true intentions from the world. Though now she uses it to hide how hurt she really is, part of that being the loss of her lover, the rest of it just wanting to protect herself from getting hurt again.
Alone she'll let her true emotions loose, which is why she won't let anyone into her room.
Reiko is protective over little kids, not wanting any other kid to grow up like she did. If there's a child involved on a mission she tends to forget orders momentarily in order to get them out of danger. If asked she'll insist it's not because she wants to be a mother, she knows with her abilities unless there's a way to lock down her healing there's no possible way that she'd be able to carry a child to term.
She tries to hide exactly what her healing is from everyone, including teammates, not wanting to be treated like she's some fragile thing. Rei has a feeling anyone near her long enough would catch on to it, but hopes that they would be kind enough not to let others know. Last thing she needs is for others to know unless it is absolutely necessary. Part of this might be because she's hoping she'll be able to heal someone enough to let her return to Sel, even if it means in death.
She loves under cover missions where she has to act normal to get information out of people, after all who would expect a medical doctor of being a superhero right? Reiko when in public and not in her uniform will act like she doesn't know how to fight, just to keep up the charade, this is because she's amused at the whole secret identity bit even if it's a little cheesy.
Backstory: (Sorry it's LOOOOOOOOONG)
Reiko’s parents were a forbidden love, they met when he was visiting on UN business with his father. Michirou Tawakawa had been sent to assassinate the young UN diplomat in order to stop a deal that would prevent a powerful drug trade between her father and a Scottish drug lord, who wanted to introduce a new drug into Europe.
Michirou purposely allowed herself to get caught feeling something was different about the father and son pair.
While Ewan Yavie may have been the younger in the family to be in Japan, he was actually the diplomat, his father acted the role because the order of Druids the two were a part of felt that it was more important to protect the younger, who’s gift of promoting peace was almost saintly.
Ewan had been the one that had questioned Michirou, managing to hide the incident of the attempted murder from the police. After the three hours that it took to talk to her he convinced his father to pull strings to have her taken back to Scotland with them.
The two married in the fall. A full year after their meeting Ashley Reiko Yavie-Tawakawa was born. Both parents doted over their only child. Michirou was unable to carry another despite them trying a few times.
Despite their wishes the family was moved from the small cottage they had just outside Glasgow, back to the clan estates, a small island just off the northern coast, the Druids fearing that allowing the daughter of their peacekeeper to live among others would ruin her ability to follow in her father’s footsteps.
Her childhood on the island wasn’t solitary, there were other children on the island, not all of them human. Her best friends ended up being a Seklie, a pair of wood elementals, a shape shifting mutant, and a dimensionally displaced saber toothed tiger.
When she was five she was taken from her nanny while they were on mainland visiting a carnival. Her ‘kidnapper’ was her own grandfather, whom had arranged the carnival to be there in order to get her. He wanted his daughter to pay for leaving him, and turning their innocent little girl into a killer seemed to be the best plan of action.
Ashley spent the next twelve years not only training to be a cold-hearted killer, but also thinking her parents were dead and that’s why no one came to get her.
In fact her parents wanted to get her, problem was even though they knew exactly where she had been taken they were unable to get close for fear that Ran would kill his granddaughter. If he hadn’t been such a powerful man they would have gone to the police, but in Sapporo if you needed something hard to get, you went to Ran Tawakawa. He may not be Yakuza, but he has so many ties with them that a bad deal with him usually had them at your door. He kept a small order of ninja on hand as enforcers, they were a small group about twenty strong with no ties to the larger ninja clans. In fact most of the larger groups like the Hand tolerated his group as long as they didn’t try to branch out from Sapporo.
Reiko did as she was ordered for the most part, and when she was thirteen her mutant ability kicked in, she had tried to escape the house in order to go explore the city without her bodyguards, one of the guards had caught her, causing her to fall and break an ankle. When he went to her worried that he was going to lose his life for it, she touched him, her wound healing, his ankle breaking.
Feeling guilty about it, when the others got to their location she lied, saying that someone had gotten in and tried to get her out of the city. And that the soldier who was now injured had been hurt rescuing her, thus he managed to keep his job and life.
She managed to keep the incident hidden a few weeks before news of what really happened got to her grandfather. The next year he pretty much tortured her to see the extent of the ability, that stopped when her secondary ability kicked in, causing all his guards to drop their weapons. If she hadn’t been strapped down she would have managed to escape from the estate she was being kept in. Instead the incident drew attention of the police.
Took another four years until Reiko actually was able to escape, and that was by subtly assisting the police with bringing down her grandfather’s organization. With him locked away in prison her parents were able to get to her. The damage was mostly done, though her actions aiding the police, and tending to wounded after the place was raided put Reiko on a watch list. They had felt she had been caged long enough and as long as she agreed to have at least one guard of the government’s choosing she could continue to have her freedom. Michirou was able to talk them into letting her return to Scotland, knowing that the druids there might be able to help with all the emotional damage that had been done to her daughter. As long as she didn’t leave the island with the keep she was allowed to go there by both the Japanese and Scottish governments, the Scottish taking interest trying to figure out how the daughter of such a peaceful man could have over two hundred kills to her name.
Reiko struggled to relearn English, but any of the murderous side that had been put into her because of her grandfather happened to stay dormant, she gained better control over her healing ability, finding that her limits were near death. She could keep someone alive long enough for them to get to medical facilities, at a strain to her heart, the one person she tried to bring back to life with her ability was the Druid monk that was working to help her get past everything that happened in Japan. He died in her arms on her nineteenth birthday, almost taking her with him.
Because of him she fights harder to try to become the good person that everyone knows she can be.
This is where she decided to try to go to medical school. While she struggles with things since her schooling before that has been barely minimal, she manages to at least get passing grades with sheer stubbornness. Reiko doesn’t come close to the top of the class, but she does manage to pass classes. The added stress worries her father who takes her down to one of the coves that litter the small island. Sel’s waiting and takes her to one of the underground pools to help her forget about everything for a few hours.
Reiko’s first experience with sex (she initiated it with Sel) had interesting results, both Sel and Rei felt incredibly weak for the next two days, though the rest of the island were overflowing with energy. Every wound and illness were cured as well. At first the Druids had thought that it had been Sel’s magic, since he has limited control over water. When they dug deeper into the situation and found out it was combined efforts of the two of them, they started teaching Reiko simple magic, binding spells and various calming techniques hoping to keep another incident like that from happening.
Sel and Reiko continue their relationship a while longer. Unknown to her he buys a ring and is actually going to propose to her, the day he decides to pop the question the keep’s attacked. Sel stays back to hold the ground so the Druids can get her and her family to the underground shelters, he’s killed in action, managing to take out two of the attackers, while Alx takes out the others using the woods to form a better barrier around the keep.
Alx is the one to bring her the ring, folding it into her hand. She slips the ring onto a silver chain wearing it as a reminder of her childhood friend and lover. Three days later some representatives from Japan come to talk to her.
They’re looking for replacements for the current roster of BH6. Rei, remembering Sel had given his life to protect the small island and her agrees. She doesn’t want anyone else to die because of her and wants to fight to protect others to repay the people who have died in her life.
